“Computers have changed the way we think about ourselves,” says expert.


Researchers using computer models of human language have helped to shape our understanding of what it means to be human, according to a leading expert on Artificial Intelligence [see, see] and cognitive science addressing The British University in Dubai.

Dr. Henry S. Thompson, from Scotland‘s University of Edinburgh, launched BUiD’s ambitious programme of engagement with the IT community with a public lecture entitled ‘Artificial minds, natural computation: how computers have changed the way we think about ourselves’.

“Thompson explained that, in order to understand how our minds work, humans have used comparisons with the most sophisticated contemporary technologies available. In recent years, this has brought the use of computers as models for the human mind to the forefront.

“‘Our thinking on this question has evolved dramatically over the last forty years or so,’ Thompson told a packed auditorium. ‘As our technology grows more sophisticated, so too will the ways in which we investigate the human mind. … ” . . . (full article)
