“The special issue ‘Artificial Intelligence & Web-based Applications and Services in Health Care‘ features technical papers on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, systems, and concepts involving the Web. The emphasis is on papers in the following active research areas: (1) developing and exploiting intelligent user interfaces for web-based medical systems, (2) using and describing intelligent web-based health care services and applications, and (3) analyzing web-based adaptive & intelligent learning environments in health care. Innovative papers in other areas describing research involving both AI and the Web are included.

“This special issue of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine offers a platform for presenting the state of the art in dermatology applications of AI techniques. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

* Intelligent data analysis in dermatology, in particular the fusion of visual, clinical and genomic information

* Intelligent teaching systems for structuring, presenting and evaluating knowledge in dermatology

* Tele-dermatology systems that focus on intelligent methods for collaborative and distributed diagnosis and disease monitoring
